Demand for GenAI learning surges in the Philippines, says report

The latest data from Coursera reveals an increase in Filipinos looking to upskill in artificial intelligence (AI) and Generative AI (GenAI).

The 2024 Philippine Learner Trends Report, which analyzed data from over 2.5 million registered Filipino learners, revealed a 21% increase in total learners and a 9x rise in enrollments for GenAI courses. This trend matches Microsoft’s Work Trend Index 2024, highlighting AI skills as a top hiring priority for Filipino leaders.

The demand for GenAI skills in the country reached an all-time high, with someone in the Philippines enrolling in GenAI courses every 15 minutes in 2024. Popular courses included Google AI Essentials, Generative AI for Everyone, and Generative AI: Introduction and Applications.

Additionally, there was a significant move to courses centered on AI applications in the workplace, which shows a growing interest in the practical uses of GenAI technology. These findings show how Filipino institutions’ upskilling efforts are increasingly aligning with the needs of the global workforce.
