Xiaomi to offer long-term update support for flaghships and budget devices

Xiaomi is planning to offer six years of updates not only for its flagship line but also for its budget devices.

According to XiaomiTime, the budget Redmi Note 14 4G is promised long-term software support, with plans for four major Android updates and an additional two years of security patches. This means these phones will remain up-to-date until 2031, making them some of the longest-supported devices in Xiaomi’s history.

Currently, Redmi devices typically receive one or two major upgrades and two to three years of security patches. Meanwhile, Xiaomi’s flagship devices get three years of major upgrades and four years of security patches.

Recently, Xiaomi launched the Xiaomi 15 Ultra and Xiaomi 15 to the global market. These flagship devices feature the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and powerful Leica cameras. They are expected to receive four major OS updates and up to six years of security patches.

Budget phones often do not receive much attention in terms of software updates. However, this new move signifies Xiaomi’s commitment to providing its users with a better experience for a longer period.

It’s not clear how many Redmi devices will benefit from this updated policy. Hopefully, the company will include more budget devices in its update list.
