YouTube Shopping launches in the Philippines

YouTube, in partnership with Shopee, has launched YouTube Shopping in the Philippines. This new program allows viewers to buy products directly while watching videos from their favorite creators.

With YouTube Shopping, creators can tag products in their videos and live streams. This makes it easier for viewers to learn more about items and purchase them straight from the stream. Instead of clicking links in the description, viewers can see the products directly in the video.

The program benefits Shopee sellers by connecting them with more creators, helping them reach bigger audiences. At the same time, sellers can promote their products more effectively and increase sales.

For Filipino content creators, YouTube Shopping offers a new way to earn money by showcasing products to their followers.

Shopping through videos is booming in Southeast Asia. In 2024, video shopping made up 20% of the region’s e-commerce sales, which is four times higher than in 2022. The Philippines is also seeing growth in content creators, with over 450 YouTube channels having more than one million subscribers.

This program also opens new opportunities for advertisers to reach more customers through creator content, helping brands grow their business.

Sapna Chadha, Vice President for Google Southeast Asia and South Asia Frontier said, “Southeast Asia is shaping the future of shopping with its powerful combination of a deeply engaged video-first audience, a profitable digital economy, and a vibrant creator community. We’re thrilled to bring YouTube Shopping to the Philippines, making Southeast Asia home to six out of nine countries globally that have it.”
