HUAWEI is making another bold move in its quest for independence from Western technologies. The Chinese tech giant has officially unveiled HarmonyOS PC, its latest operating system for personal computers. The new OS is scheduled for release on May 19, 2025.

HarmonyOS PC is home-grown and built around three key components: HarmonyOS Base, HarmonyOS Ecosystem, and HarmonyOS Experience.
The Base is the core infrastructure, featuring the HarmonyOS kernel, the Ark Engine for improved graphics and UI responsiveness, and the StarShield security architecture.
The Ecosystem is one of HarmonyOS PC’s strongest selling points. It boasts over 150 exclusive applications and compatibility with 2,000 universal apps. Notably, WPS Office comes integrated, offering productivity features for work and everyday computing tasks.

The Experience focuses on extensive hardware support, accommodating more than 1,000 external devices, including 800 standard peripherals like keyboards, mice, and monitors, as well as 20 device categories. The OS also recognizes 200 secondary devices such as printers and scanners.
Although specific details remain undisclosed, HUAWEI has hinted at AI integration, real-time transcription, voice commands, multi-device collaboration, live wallpapers, and more. The OS will also include a dock similar to Windows 11, but with square icons for a modernized and integrated look.
With HarmonyOS PC, Huawei is reinforcing its commitment to building a self-sufficient tech ecosystem. Stay tuned for updates as May 19 approaches.
