Smart Communications and PLDT are expanding their campaign to stop cable theft in more communities across the Philippines. The program began in Makati and has since expanded to include Pangasinan, Davao, and Cebu. More areas will follow soon.
The campaign works with barangay leaders, police, and residents to protect telco cables and equipment. In 2024, PLDT reported nearly 1,000 theft cases. Most involved copper cables, which are often stolen and sold.
Cable theft disrupts internet and phone services, affecting homes, schools, and businesses. The campaign teaches people how to report theft, understand the Anti-Fencing Law, and stay safe online.
Barangay patrol teams received security kits with flashlights, batons, raincoats, and Smart prepaid cards. Smart also helped residents with service issues during the rollout.
PLDT and Smart say working with barangays helps protect their network and keeps services running. The campaign supports digital access and helps improve education, safety, and livelihoods.
