Smart strengthens 5G network in Siargao ahead of WSL Championship Tour

Smart strengthens 5G network in Siargao ahead of the World Surf League (WSL) Championship Tour at Cloud 9 in General Luna. The improvements will support thousands of visitors, athletes, media, and locals during the international surfing event, which runs until November 10.

The Philippines is hosting a stop on the WSL Championship Tour for the first time. With more people expected on the island, Smart is expanding 5G coverage and adding network capacity in key locations across Siargao.

The upgrades cover General Luna, including Cloud 9, one of the country’s most popular surfing spots. Smart is also improving its network in areas such as Siargao Airport, Siargao Seaport, and other strategic locations around the island.

According to Smart, the move builds on its existing network presence in Siargao. The company said the expanded coverage will help support the connectivity needs of residents, tourists, businesses, content creators, and event organizers.

“Siargao is an important tourism destination, and we are committed to supporting its continued growth through reliable connectivity. By further enhancing our 5G network in key areas, we are building on our established presence on the island to support the evolving needs of residents, businesses, and visitors who drive its local economy,” said Lloyd R. Manaloto, First Vice President and officer-in-charge of Smart.

For those attending the event, Smart is offering select Unli 5G promos that include unlimited 5G data and non-stop 4G data, with offers starting at PHP 90 for three days. The company is also promoting Smart Postpaid plans with Device Link support for compatible smartwatches.

The network improvements should help visitors and residents stay connected throughout the WSL Championship Tour. For Siargao, better connectivity can help support tourism and local businesses long after the competition ends.
