Google adds Gemini to Chrome for smarter browsing

Google is giving Chrome a major upgrade by adding Gemini right into the browser. This change will make browsing easier, faster, and more helpful.

With Gemini in Chrome, you can ask questions about articles, get quick summaries, and even get info from YouTube videos. It works across tabs and connects with tools like Google Docs and Calendar. Currently, it’s available for Mac and Windows users in the US with English as the default language. Support for Android and iOS is coming soon.

The address bar, or omnibox, is also getting smarter. A new AI Mode lets you ask complex questions and get follow-up suggestions based on the page you’re on. For example, if you’re shopping online, Chrome might suggest checking the warranty. Again, these updates are rolling out in the US first and will come to other regions soon.

Google’s also using AI to boost safety. Chrome now blocks scams, fills in login info securely, and helps fix weak passwords. According to the search giant, Android users are already seeing fewer spam notifications, about 3 billion less each day.

Microsoft Edge has had similar AI features for some time now, with Copilot built into the browser. Like Gemini, Copilot helps users summarize pages, compare tabs, and get answers in real time.

A wider rollout is expected soon, with support for more languages and devices. Stay tuned for more details.
