Canva relaunches Affinity as free-for-life all-in-one design app

This replaces paid Designer, Photo, and Publisher apps.

Canva has relaunched Affinity as a single, unified design platform, and it’s free for life. The new Affinity app combines photo editing, illustration, and layout tools in one place, replacing the older Designer, Photo, and Publisher apps.

Unlike Adobe’s subscription model, Affinity now offers full access with no monthly fees. Canva says the app is “free forever,” a clear message to users who prefer one-time tools over ongoing payments.

The app is available now for Windows and Mac, with an iPad version coming soon. It uses a universal file format and connects directly to Canva, making it easy to export projects. Canva Premium users also get access to optional AI tools inside Affinity, including image generation, background cleanup, and instant copy.

Canva has removed the older V2 apps from the Affinity website. Users who already own them can still use them, but it’s unclear if those versions will receive updates.

Some designers may be cautious about AI features, but Canva says they’re not required. The bigger shift is the move to a free-for-life model, which could appeal to creatives looking for powerful tools without long-term costs.

As someone who bought and uses Affinity Photo 2, this is a welcome addition. Stay tuned for updates.
