Apple is working on a major design change for its 2027 iPhone. According to this report by MacRumors, the company plans to place the front-facing camera under the display, removing the notch or punch-hole and creating a more seamless screen.
This move is part of a broader redesign for the 20th anniversary iPhone. Apple is also expected to introduce a bezel-less display that curves around all four edges. The under-display camera would follow the rollout of under-screen Face ID, which is rumored to arrive in 2026 with the iPhone 18 Pro.
To improve image quality, Apple is reportedly using a new lens system from LG Innotek. This “freeform optic” design helps reduce distortion and lets in more light, addressing common issues with hidden cameras. JP Morgan also suggests Apple’s foldable iPhone, possibly launching before 2027, could feature a 24MP under-display camera, much sharper than the 4–8MP sensors used in current Android phones.
Apple may skip the “iPhone 19” name altogether, similar to its jump from iPhone 8 to iPhone X in 2017.

If these changes come through, the 2027 iPhone could mark a big step toward cleaner, uninterrupted displays and more advanced camera tech. Stay tuned for updates.
