Google Wallet launches in the Philippines

Enables secure contactless payments, tickets, and loyalty cards on Android.

Google has launched Google Wallet in the Philippines, giving Android users a secure way to pay and store digital items. Starting November 18, cardholders from partner banks can add their Visa or Mastercard to the app and use their phones or Wear OS devices for contactless payments.

Google Wallet works as a digital wallet, holding payment cards, loyalty cards, boarding passes, event tickets, and transit passes. Payments are processed through Google Pay, which uses tokenization to protect card details.

Each transaction generates a unique security code, and banks require verification before adding cards. If a device is lost, users can lock it remotely with Google’s Find My Device.

Local banks, including ChinaBank, RCBC, UnionBank, Maya, GCash, and GoTyme, are part of the rollout. Travelers can also add boarding passes from Philippine Airlines, AirAsia, and other carriers.

Commuters can use Google Wallet at MRT-3 in Manila and on modern jeepneys in Cebu and Mandaue. Online merchants such as Shopee already support Google Pay, with more integrations expected soon.
