Nothing OS 4.0 with Android 16 rolls out, starting on Phone (3)

The update brings new Glyph tools, dark mode upgrades, and smoother performance.

Nothing has started rolling out Nothing OS 4.0, its latest OS update based on Android 16, to the Nothing Phone (3). The update comes after a long beta period and is arriving first on the Phone (3).

Other Nothing and CMF devices will follow, though the company has not shared a timeline. The rollout will be staged, so some users may need to wait a few days before getting it.

The Phone (3) gets several exclusive features. Flip to Glyph now offers more control, while Pocket Mode has been improved for everyday use. Two new Glyph animations, Hourglass and Lunar Cycle, add fresh visual options. The Mirror Selfie tool has also been updated, letting users save both mirrored and original versions of photos.

System-wide changes include Live Updates, which bring real-time information such as rides, deliveries, and timers directly to the lock screen, and Glyph Interface. Extra Dark Mode has been refined with deeper blacks, better contrast, and lower power use. Motion and haptic feedback have been tuned to make gestures, app transitions, and volume adjustments feel smoother and more responsive.

Customization has also expanded. New widget sizes for Weather, Pedometer, and Screen Time give users more layout choices. Pop-up View allows two floating apps to run at once, while hidden icons help keep the app drawer clean.
