Nothing Phone 2 won’t go past Android 16, and here’s why the flagship phone will miss the Android 17-based Nothing OS 5.0 update.
Nothing CEO Carl Pei confirmed the news after someone on Reddit asked for more software updates for the 2023 phone. Pei said that the chip maker no longer supports newer Android versions. The phone’s kernel is also too old to support the new software.
This means the Nothing Phone 2 will stop getting major OS updates after reaching Android 16. Pei said Nothing already kept its promise to give the phone three major Android version updates. The phone launched with Android 13 and then got Android 14, Android 15, and Android 16.

Phone 2 owners are also asking Nothing to add newer features to their phones without the full OS upgrade. Users want camera features like AI Vivid mode, new camera widgets, and Lucent theme updates. Nothing has not said if it will add these features yet.
Nothing has not confirmed if it will bring these camera features to Phone 2 users in future software patches.
