Disney has entered a new partnership with OpenAI that will allow the company to bring its well-known characters into Sora, OpenAI’s text-to-video model. The agreement gives Disney controlled access to the tool, so its teams can test how AI-generated videos can support early production and creative development.
Sora can generate short video clips from simple text prompts. It can create motion, environments, and visual concepts without traditional animation work. With this deal, Disney can experiment with new ways to present its characters while keeping full control over how they are used.
Both companies say the partnership will follow strict safety and usage rules. Character rights remain protected, and all output will stay within approved guidelines.
The agreement also highlights a shift in the entertainment industry. Studios are testing AI tools to speed up tasks like storyboarding and previsualization. These tools can shorten early production cycles and give teams more room to try new concepts.

At the moment, there is no timeline for public-facing projects. For now, the partnership focuses on internal testing and controlled experiments inside Disney’s creative groups.
