Reports suggest OnePlus is quietly winding down operations

Reports say OnePlus is winding down after years of falling sales and shrinking market share. According to Android Headlines, the company is being dismantled quietly, with offices closed, staff reduced, and product launches scaled back.

Shipments dropped more than 20% in 2024, from around 17 million units to 13–14 million. In India, its premium market share fell 71% in a single year. In China, it slipped from 2% to 1.6%. These numbers show OnePlus is falling from its early “flagship killer” days.

The retreat is visible worldwide. OnePlus shut down its US headquarters in Dallas in 2024, leaving only a small team in Palo Alto. European offices had already been reduced to fewer than ten staff in major markets. In India, a planned R&D hub with 1,500 employees shrank to just 116 by 2024.

Product launches also changed. The OnePlus 15 was introduced via Zoom instead of a major event, and US carrier partnerships ended. Planned devices like the Open 2 foldable and the compact 15s were cancelled.

OPPO invested $14 billion in 2022 to keep OnePlus afloat, but the effort failed. While OPPO grew modestly, OnePlus continued to lose ground. Current phones will still receive updates and warranty support, but the brand’s independent future looks uncertain.
