HUAWEI is working on a new health feature for its smartwatches that can help detect early signs of diabetes. The company revealed the tool at the 2026 World Health Expo in Dubai.
The feature uses Photoplethysmography (PPG), a sensor that reads changes in blood flow. By studying these signals, the watch can give insights into blood sugar trends. According to HUAWEI, the tool is not meant to diagnose diabetes. Instead, it aims to encourage users to consult a doctor if needed.
To get results, users need to wear the smartwatch for 3 to 14 days. The data is then processed through a Diabetes Risk app, which shows risk levels as Low, Medium, or High.
The tool is already available on the HUAWEI Watch GT 6 Pro and will roll out to more models through software updates soon. HUAWEI also hinted at a new smartwatch focused on blood sugar monitoring later this year.

While it is not a replacement for medical tests and actual doctors, the feature should help users spot risks earlier and take steps toward improving their health.
