NVIDIA unveils DLSS 5 with AI-powered graphics

NVIDIA has unveiled DLSS 5, the newest version of its deep learning super sampling technology. The company says this is its biggest step in graphics since ray tracing was added in 2018.

DLSS 5 uses AI to improve how games look in real time. It adds realistic lighting and material effects to each frame, making details like skin, fabric, and hair appear more natural. Unlike video AI models, DLSS 5 keeps pixels stable by working directly with the game’s 3D world.

Developers also get more control. DLSS 5 includes tools for adjusting intensity, color, and masking, so studios can keep their own visual style. It works with NVIDIA’s Streamline framework, which already supports DLSS and Reflex, making integration easier.

Big game studios are already on board. Bethesda, CAPCOM, Ubisoft, Tencent, and Warner Bros. confirmed support, with titles such as Starfield, Resident Evil Requiem, Assassin’s Creed Shadows, Hogwarts Legacy, and Oblivion Remastered. NVIDIA says DLSS 5 will roll out this fall, with previews shown at GTC.

DLSS 5 is expected to be available later this year, giving developers and players a look at how AI can push real-time graphics closer to cinematic quality.
