Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation are bringing back the Ghostbusters in animated form. The new series, Ghostbusters: Night Shift, is set to premiere on Netflix in 2027. The reveal happened during Ghostbusters Day at New York City’s FDNY Hook & Ladder 8 firehouse, the same station used in the original films.
The show will continue the franchise’s mix of paranormal comedy and ghost‑hunting action. It follows earlier animated projects like The Real Ghostbusters from the 1980s and Extreme Ghostbusters from the 1990s.
This time, the creative team includes Ben Hibon, Elliott Kalan, Jason Reitman, Gil Kenan, Amie Karp, and Dan Aykroyd. Reitman and Kenan co‑wrote Ghostbusters: Afterlife and Ghostbusters: Frozen Empire, while Aykroyd was part of the cast of the original movies.

The Ghostbusters franchise started in 1984 with the original film, which earned nearly $300 million worldwide. Since then, it has spawned sequels, reboots, and spin‑offs.
