Netflix to roll out cheaper ad-supported plan to PH and 14 other countries in 2027

Netflix is rolling out its ad-supported plan to 15 more countries in 2027, including the Philippines, Austria, Belgium, Colombia, Denmark, Indonesia, Ireland, the Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, Poland, Sweden, Switzerland, and Thailand.

The ads tier gives subscribers a cheaper option with limited ads. The company says the plan already has over 250 million monthly active users, with 80 percent watching weekly. In Q1 2026, it made up more than 60 percent of sign-ups.

On the business side, Netflix is working with over 4,000 advertisers and expects to hit around $3 billion in ad revenue this year, double what it made in 2025. Campaigns on the platform reportedly perform better than TV benchmarks, boosting brand awareness and purchase intent.

By 2027, Netflix will also expand ad formats beyond shows and movies. New placements will include podcasts and vertical video. AI tools are also being integrated to make ads more engaging.

In the Philippines, Netflix subscription plans currently start at ₱169 for the Mobile Plan, ₱279 for the Basic Plan, ₱449 for the Standard Plan, and ₱619 for the Premium Plan.

The upcoming ad-supported tier is expected to be priced lower than the Mobile Plan, which should make it the most affordable option for local subscribers.

The question is: will you accept ads in exchange for lower monthly fees?
