DJI and Insta360 are in a legal fight over their latest vlogging cameras. At the center are DJI’s Osmo Pocket 3 and Insta360’s Luna Ultra, with both companies accusing each other of copying designs and stabilization tech.
DJI filed lawsuits on June 11 in the US, saying Insta360 violated two design patents and four utility patents. The claims cover the Luna Ultra’s handheld body, gimbal neck, scroll wheel, record button, rotating display, and tracking features. DJI wants a permanent injunction to stop Luna Ultra sales, plus damages and profit recovery.
Insta360 fired back with countersuits, accusing DJI of infringing on five patents related to gimbal stabilization, directional control, telemetry overlay, and panoramic video stabilization. The company insists the Luna Ultra builds on its earlier Link Series webcams and Flow Series gimbals, not DJI’s designs.
The timing is tough for DJI. In December 2025, the FCC banned DJI’s foreign-made drones and cameras in the US, forcing the brand to sell under a new name, “Xtra.”
Winning against Insta360 could help DJI protect its market share, especially after launching the Osmo Pocket 4 in April 2026.
