Samsung Galaxy Z Fold8 draws most attention in global preorders

Samsung’s Galaxy Z8 Series is off to a strong start, with preorders up more than 30% from last year’s Galaxy Z7, according to Counterpoint data. The Galaxy Z Fold8 is drawing the most attention in South Korea, the US, Europe, Japan, China, and Southeast Asia, while India stands out as the main exception.

In South Korea, preorders hit a record 1.44 million in just seven days, with the Fold8 taking 70% of the share. The US saw nearly half of buyers choose the Fold8, while Europe reported almost 40% of preorders going to the model. Japan’s online sales quickly sold out, and China ranked the Fold8 first on Tmall and JD.com despite some criticism over missing telephoto and S Pen support.

Southeast Asia markets like Malaysia, Indonesia, and Vietnam also reported strong demand, with delivery delays due to high interest.

The Fold8’s appeal comes from its passport-sized form factor, a 5.5-inch cover display, and a 7.6-inch inside display. It’s powerful, running on the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 with a 4,800mAh battery. The foldable also packs a 50MP main camera.

These upgrades make it more practical for streaming, productivity, and everyday use, attracting younger buyers, more women, and Flip-to-Fold switchers.

India is the outlier. Here, the Fold8 Ultra leads with 60% of pre-bookings, appealing to affluent and business users who prefer the premium option. This shows how regional preferences shape Samsung’s foldable strategy, with the Fold8 dominating most markets while the Ultra finds its niche in India.

Samsung expects first-year shipments of the Z8 series to grow by double digits over the Z7 and more than 70% compared to the Z6. With the Fold8’s wider appeal driving momentum, Samsung is strengthening its lead in foldables, though Apple’s rumored entry could challenge its position.
