Apple reboots smart home ecosystem with LG partnership

Apple is rebooting its smart home ecosystem with LG, with new devices and LG‑branded accessories. Bloomberg reports the partnership will expand Apple’s HomeKit platform and put both companies in direct competition with Amazon’s Ring and Google’s Nest.

Apple will launch an upgraded HomePod mini and a new TV set‑top box as part of its smart home lineup. LG will follow with a range of accessories, including a video doorbell, smart thermostat, deadbolt lock, indoor and outdoor cameras, a floodlight camera, and a temperature sensor. These products will carry the LG brand, with LG handling manufacturing and support.

Connectivity includes Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth, Thread, and Matter protocols. The smart lock adds ultra‑wideband support, allowing it to auto‑unlock when you approach. Apple is also working on a privacy‑focused monitoring device, a hub with a robotic arm‑mounted screen, and an in‑home security service.

Regulatory filings from LG with the FCC and UL Solutions confirm product names and diagrams, though Apple’s role is not mentioned. The partnership builds on Apple and LG’s history of collaboration in displays, TVs, and monitors, now extending into smart home hardware.
