Top 5 smartphone brands: Samsung, Apple lead global shipments in Q3 2026

Global smartphone shipments fell 20% in Q3 2026, according to Counterpoint Research data. That’s the lowest third-quarter level in 14 years. Even with the drop, the top 5 brands kept their spots in shipment share.

Samsung stayed at number one with 23% share. Strong demand for the Galaxy Z Fold8 and steady supply of its A series helped it keep the lead.

Apple followed close behind with a 22% share, its highest ever in a Q3. The iPhone 18 Pro launch in China and India boosted sales, though the lack of a base iPhone 18 limited overall shipments.

Xiaomi came in third with a 12% share. The brand cut back on low-price models and focused on premium devices like the Xiaomi 18 series and foldables. Its in-house XRING O3 chip also gave it an edge in the premium space.

OPPO ranked fourth with a 9% share, while vivo placed fifth with 8%. Both saw shipments fall more than 20% after raising prices and facing stock shortages. OPPO streamlined its lineup across OPPO, realme, and OnePlus to improve margins. vivo leaned on its Y series for budget buyers while expanding its premium X, V, and S lines.

Take note that these numbers show shipment share, which tracks units sent to retailers and distributors. It’s not the same as consumer sales, but it does give us a clear view of how brands are performing in the supply chain.

For buyers, the impact is simple: higher prices, fewer choices, and a stronger focus on premium models until memory costs go down.
