Goodbye, Yahoo Messenger

Yahoo Messenger (or YM) is scheduled to go offline on July 17, 2018. According to Yahoo, there currently is no replacement product from the company. But they are encouraging users to check out their new group chat app called Squirrel.

Squirrel was announced last month. It is currently on beta, and is invite only. The new group messaging chat app allows users to organize chat rooms with individual or team functionalities. Those interested can request for an invite at squirrel.yahoo.com.

Yahoo Messenger was one of the first chat apps of its kind. The service started as Yahoo Pager in 1998, and was rebranded to its current name in 1999. It was meant to be an alternative platform to email and basic SMS back in the day.
