In an effort to help the victims of typhoon Sendong, Smart Communications has set up Libreng Tawag stations in the areas of Cagayan De Oro, IliganCity, and other parts of Mindanao and Visayas. The Libreng Tawag stations offer free calls, free phone charging, and even free internet communications in some areas.

Smart’s Libreng Tawag stations were set up as early as Saturday last week on evacuation centers and barangay halls in affected areas of Macasandig, Carmen, Kauswagan andVelez St. in Cagayan De Oro City and Camanjac and Batinguel in Dumaguete City.  The company is setting up additional free calls facilities in other areas affected by Sendong, particularly in Cagayan de Oro and IliganCity.  This is a welcome move from Smart since it provides free means of communication to affected residents of these areas.

Smart has also asked its subscribers to send help to those affected by typhoon Sendong.  Smart Money users can instantly transfer funds through their mobile phones to the official Baha Fund account number 5577 5130 6822 1104.  Donors may also deposit cash to the same Smart Money account number in any Banco De Oro branch nationwide or through Hapinoy and Cebuana Lhuillier outlets.

For other Smart subscribers, they may also send their donations to the Philippine Red Cross through text.  To donate, just send RED <AMOUNT> to 4143.  Valid donation amounts are 10, 25, 50 and 100 and will be charged to the subscriber’s prepaid load or postpaid bill.
