Rovio Announces A Turn-Based Role Playing Version of Angry Birds

With numerous iterations of its best selling classic, Rovio surprised a lot of people with the announcement of Angry Birds Epic, an adventure role-playing game (RPG) with turn-based action.

Veering away from the catapulting birds via slingshot, Angry Birds Epic will feature a story line, and a crafting system where in players can make armor, weapons and potions using resources gathered or purchased (with real money) throughout the game.

Angry Birds Epic will have a soft launch in the Canadian and Australian iTunes stores later this week. The final version of the game will launch globally for iOS, Android and Windows Phone 8 later this year.

Did anyone see this coming? I’m actually a fan of RPGs. Hopefully this will prove interesting enough to play.
