Apple’s 4-inch iPhone Announced! Do You Want One?

Last week, Apple announced the 4-inch iPhone SE. As seen in numerous leaks, the newest addition to the iOS family combines the small form factor of the iPhone 5s and the powerful hardware of the iPhone 6s. The question is: Do you want one?

The Most Powerful 4-inch Phone… Ever

There isn’t anything new that we haven’t seen before in the iPhone SE. Design-wise, the device looks like an iPhone 5s. Aside from a few minor aesthetics, the SE has the same aluminum body. It also has a 4-inch IPS Retina Display found on the 5s.

Inside the iPhone SE is the A9 processor (with an integrated M9 motion chip) and the 12MP main camera sensor found inside the iPhone 6s. The front camera uses a 1.2MP sensor (the 6s has a 5MP one). And they didn’t add 3D Touch (besides the screen size, Apple had to at least leave something out to differentiate it from their flagships).

The most interesting thing about the iPhone SE is the price. The 16GB model has a price of USD 399, with the 64GB at USD 499. The device will arrive in select countries by April, with other countries following in succeeding months.

Do You Want One? Because I think I Do.

The 4-inch iPhone SE is certainly interesting. It has a reliable yet old design which houses Apple’s most current hardware. It has a great camera and now, an “affordable” price point. With these in the mix, I have a feeling that this could entice a lot of new users.

Personally, I find the iPhone SE intriguing. I am a long time Android user and I like big screens. I have often passed on iPhones because of Apple’s “walled garden” approach, but there is something about the 4-inch form factor that caught my attention; I like the idea of having a handy, yet powerful device.

What do you guys think? I have friends who mentioned they like the iPhone SE for the size, but in the age of “phablets,” this could be a step back for Apple. I guess we’ll find out next month when it’s finally out.

 1. I’m sure there’s a fair market of people who prefer the smaller iphone size.
