According to the research, Chinese brands account for 45% of the Philippines smartphone market.
Philippine Smartphone Market Q2 2018
According to Counterpoint Research’s Quarterly Market Monitor Q2 2018, Vivo has gained substantial market share in the Philippines of 16% in Q2 2018. During the same period of 2017, the company only has 8% share, meaning they doubled their share in just 1 year.
The rise can be credited to the popularity of compelling smartphones such as the Vivo Y73 and Y71, as well as the V5, V9, and the latest V11. This was made possible thanks to their efforts in traditional marketing, attractive promos, mall and school tours, and digital endeavors like the YouTube Fan Fest. No doubt having popular celebrity endorsers also helps.
Huawei also sees a big improvement, jumping from just 3% at the same period last year to 12% this year. The huge leap in market share is is probably attributed to value-for-money offerings in the midrange and premium smartphone segments, such as the Y6 and the Nova series.

The brand with the biggest smartphone market share is still Samsung followed by local fan favorite Cherry Mobile. Samsung has a plethora of devices out there so its no surprise that they sit at the top with 20%. Their share did dip by 4% compared to the same period last year. This can’t be helped as the other brands continue to improve and ramp up their offerings.
Cherry Mobile, on the other hand, has a strong brand and fan following. The company offers quality devices at affordable prices.
OPPO sits at the fourth spot with 14%. The popular Selfie brand is doing quite well and managed to improve by 1% despite the already high share from last year.
Apple is bundled with other devices. The brand saw a decline of 2% in Q2 2018, as compared to 5% during the same period in 2017.
