Sony sold over 91.6 million PS4 units worldwide as of December 31, 2018, according to their estimates. During the 2018 holiday season alone, they sold over 5.6 million units globally.
That number is just staggering, and shows how popular the PS4 console is compared to its rivals. In comparison, Nintendo sold 22.86 million Switch consoles as of September 30, 2018. Microsoft no longer releases its Xbox One numbers, but pundits are saying its nowhere near PS4 numbers.
As impressive as that is, it wasn’t their only milestone. Apart from the console sales numbers, they did good on the software front as well, selling over 9 million copies of the game Marvel’s Spider-Man worldwide.
“Thanks to the continued support from our fans during the holiday season, we are pleased to announce that PS4 has reached 91.6 million units globally. We are also happy to announce that the monthly active users of PlayStation Network continues to show strong growth, and has surpassed 90 million as of end of November 2018,” said John Kodera, President and CEO of Sony Interactive Entertainment.

And if that again wasn’t proof enough of the PS4’s popularity, Sony has yet another milestone: Its monthly active users of the PlayStation Network has now surpassed 90 million at the end of November 2018. Now that’s a lot of people enamoured with the console.
With all the numbers, 2018 was a clear win for the PS4, dominating the year with compelling games and a moderately priced hardware.
Let’s hope they continue the streak this 2019.
