Sony announced a new look for its PlayStation 5 console, which will be available in time for the holiday season. The new PS5 is smaller, lighter, and more energy-efficient than the original model, but still offers the same powerful performance and features.
The new PS5 has a sleeker design, with a black and white color scheme and a curved shape. It was reduced in volume by more than 30%, and weight by 18% and 24% compared to the previous models.
The new PS5 also comes with a horizontal stand included in the box, which allows users to place the console flat on a surface. A new vertical stand, compatible with all PS5 models, is sold separately at USD 29.99. The vertical stand has a built-in screw mechanism that securely attaches to the console.
The new PS5 will be available in two versions: the PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive, and the PS5 Digital Edition, which does not have a disc drive and only supports digital downloads and streaming. The prices for the new PS5 are as follows:
- U.S.
PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – USD 499.99
PS5 Digital Edition – USD 449.99 - Europe
PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – 549.99 EUR
PS5 Digital Edition – 449.99 EUR - U.K.
PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – 479.99 GBP
PS5 Digital Edition – 389.99 GBP - Japan
PS5 with Ultra HD Blu-ray disc drive – 66,980 JPY (includes tax)
PS5 Digital Edition – 59,980 JPY (includes tax)
The new PS5 will launch this November in the U.S., Japan, Canada, Mexico, Australia, and the rest of the world. Once inventory of the current PS5 model has sold out, the new PS5 will become the only model available.
Sony will continue to support the original PS5 model with software updates and services. Users who own the original PS5 will be able to enjoy the same gaming experience as those who buy the new PS5.
The new PS5 is expected to be in high demand during the holiday season, as Sony faces competition from Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Series S consoles, as well as Nintendo’s Switch OLED model.
There’s no news yet of price and availability details in the Philippines. Stay tuned in for more details about the new PS5.
