Unboxed, first impressions

Like the modern Realme devices that came before it, the Realme X3 SuperZoom is packed in that signature yellow Realme box we are all familiar with. The packaging stands out with a striking branding we now easily recognize.

Realme has been making a lot of noise as of late, particularly on how they design their devices. The X3 SuperZoom is no different. While from the front it has that Realme aesthetic shared across their smartphone range, the back features another gorgeous design.

Our review unit is clad in Arctic White and it looks immaculate. It has a clean streamlined design with a pearl finish. And the way it reflects subtle rainbow colors as you move the phone around is eye-catching.

Its retail package comes with most things you need. You have a 30W Dart Charger, a Type-C cable, a silicone protect case, the SIM card tool, a pre-installed screen protector, and the usual documentation. Sadly, it doesn’t come with earbuds, but its not a bid deal. I suppose they have to cut corners somewhere.

The Realme X3 SuperZoom feels great in the hand with smooth curves and solid build. The phone has a Gorilla Glass 5 back and a plastic frame. Despite the materials though, it has some weight to it at 202 g.

The device is quite large too, brandishing a 6.6-inch display and dimensions measuring in at 164.8 x 75.8 x 8.9mm. It’s not unwieldy, but you will notice its size.

The display has an IPS panel with a full HD resolution and a pill shaped cutout for the selfie cameras. It has a 120Hz refresh rate which keeps everything looking butter smooth. I suggest you set it in the display settings to keep it at that refresh rate. On auto, it switches between 90Hz and 120Hz.

On the left hand side is the volume rocker. On the right we have the oblong shaped power button with a built-in fingerprint scanner. Its plenty fast, and I like its placement. Its convenient and easy to reach. It also has face unlock, which is fast but less secure.

At the bottom are the dual nano SIM tray, a USB Type-C port, and the mono speaker. Audio quality of the speaker is above average. Its fine for most things and gets really loud with decent clarity, but it does lack some bass and depth. Oh, and the phone doesn’t have a headphone jack, so that’s a bummer.

The X3 SuperZoom has six cameras in total, which just about covers most shooting scenarios you’ll find yourself in. At the back, it has a 64MP main camera, an 8MP periscope with up to 60x zoom, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 2MP macro. In front are the 32MP + 8MP dual selfie cameras. It also has Super Nightscape Mode, support for up to 4K/60fps video recording, and UIS video stabilization.

Under the hood, the Realme X3 SuperZoom is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 855+ processor. Our review unit has 12GB LPDDR4x RAM and 256GB UFS 3.0 storage with Realme UI Android 10.

The phone is plenty fast with smooth animations, thanks to its 120Hz refresh rate. As a bonus, playing Call of Duty Mobile on max frame rate and graphics is a dream. It just looks and plays great.

The handset also has a 4,200mAh battery with a 30-watt Dart Charge support. It should be enough for most days, even with the high refresh rate. Plus the fast charger is a big help for topping up fast.
