DILG said 1,502 telco permits for cell towers approved

The Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) said that local government units (LGUs) have approved 1,502 applications for permits to build cell towers.

Around 1,930 applications were submitted, meaning there are 428 applications still pending.

The PH government recently received criticisms regarding the slow and tedious process of having applications to build cell towers approved. This prompted the change to a faster process.

Previously, it took 241 days on top of other permits and documentary requirements to process applications. In the new simplified process, that number has been cut to 16 days.

According to DILG Secretary Eduardo Ano, the delays in permit applications for cell towers have become a source of corruption.
