Qualcomm announces Snapdragon 888 Plus 5G chip with faster CPU and AI performance

Qualcomm recently unveiled the Snapdragon 888 Plus. The flagship chipset saw a boost in power with a higher clock speed of 3GHz (2.995GHz to be exact).

The Qualcomm AI Engine saw improvements as well, now on its sixth generation. It delivers up to 32 trillions operation per second (TOPS) performance, which is 20% better compared to the base chip’s 26 TOPS.

The Plus model is similar to the non-Plus with an architecture based on Arm Cortex-X1 technology, an Adreno 660 GPU, Wi-Fi 6, and a Snapdragon X60 5G modem with a peak download speeds of 7.5 GBps.

Early this year, Qualcomm announced the 5G chipsets Snapdragon 870 with a clock speed of 3.2GHz and the Snapdragon 480 for budget devices.

According to Qualcomm, we should expect to see the Snapdragon 888 Plus in smartphones sometime Q3 2021. Honor might be the first out of the gate with upcoming Magic 3 flagship. Motorola, Vivo, Xiaomi, and Asus has also announced their intentions to use the chip in their respective devices.
