Google confirms it’s working on Android PCs with Snapdragon chips

We could see a merger between ChromeOS and Android.

Google has confirmed it’s working on bringing Android to desktop PCs, powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon processors. The announcement came during the Snapdragon Summit 2025, where Google’s Rick Osterloh and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon shared early details of the project.

Osterloh said Google is building a shared technical base for phones and PCs. That means Android will soon run on desktop computers, not just mobile devices. The goal is to bring Google’s AI tools, apps, and developer support into the PC space.

This move also suggests Google may be merging ChromeOS with Android. Osterloh hinted at combining the two platforms, and Android Ecosystem President Sameer Samat confirmed earlier this year that such a merger is underway.

Android 16 already includes features that support desktop use, like external display support and improved window controls, which hint at a full desktop experience.

Qualcomm’s CEO said he has seen the prototype and called it “incredible.” If successful, Android PCs could offer a new alternative to Windows and ChromeOS.
