Googlebook OS is coming to Chromebooks, but Google has not said which models will get the upgrade. The new system is Google’s AI-focused replacement for ChromeOS.
Google said “many” of the newest Chromebooks will be eligible, but it hasn’t released a list or minimum specs yet. Current Googlebook laptops all ship with at least 16GB RAM, touchscreens, and either Intel Core Ultra Series 3 or Snapdragon X Elite chips.
This could mean the OS will need higher-end hardware, though Google hasn’t confirmed whether that’s required.
Googlebook OS mixes ChromeOS and Android, with tighter phone integration and more Gemini AI features. It is built to run faster and smarter compared to standard ChromeOS.
For those with older devices, ChromeOS will still get updates and security patches until 2034. That means your Chromebook will get support even if it cannot support Googlebook OS.

If you own a newer Chromebook, you may be able to upgrade once Google releases the full list of supported models. Until then, ChromeOS remains secure, while Googlebook OS marks the next step in AI-powered computing.
