Qualcomm is rolling out Linux support for Snapdragon X2 laptops, starting with an early developer preview on Debian and expanding to Ubuntu in 2027. This is the first time Snapdragon chips get official Linux support.
The preview is already live on Debian 13 with a custom kernel. Qualcomm worked on drivers for the Hexagon NPU, Adreno GPU, and core functions like I/O, boot, and power management. Developers can now build, flash, and test Linux images on Snapdragon X2 hardware.
The roadmap shows more hardware support and updates by November 2026. Qualcomm wants to push stable upstream integration so OEMs can ship Snapdragon laptops with Linux without custom builds.
At the Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm confirmed Debian support by the end of 2026. Ubuntu will follow in the first half of 2027.
This rollout answers a long-time request from developers who wanted official Linux on Snapdragon. With drivers for AI and graphics already in progress, the platform is set to handle productivity and dev workloads.
