Qualcomm unveils Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6

Qualcomm has launched the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 and Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6, its latest flagship mobile platforms built on a 2nm process. The new chipsets deliver faster performance, improved efficiency, and advanced AI capabilities.

Both platforms feature Oryon CPU cores running up to 5.0GHz, paired with new Adreno GPUs and Hexagon NPUs. The setup includes two Prime cores at 5.0GHz and six Performance cores at 4.0GHz, supported by 16MB Oryon FlexCache. Memory support extends to 24GB LPDDR5X/6 RAM at 5,300MHz and UFS 5.0 storage.

The Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 offers a 13% CPU boost, 37% CPU efficiency gain, 44% GPU improvement, and 35% NPU increase compared to Gen 5. AI performance per watt improved by 33%. The standard Gen 6 delivers a 10% CPU boost, 37% CPU efficiency gain, 35% GPU improvement, and 14% NPU increase, with AI efficiency up 20%.

Video recording capabilities also improve. The Extreme Gen 6 supports 8K at 60fps and 4K slow motion at 240fps. The standard Gen 6 records 8K at 30fps and 4K slow motion at 120fps.

Xiaomi’s 18 Pro Series debuted with the Extreme Gen 6, while Motorola’s Signature 27 will use the standard Gen 6. OnePlus confirmed its upcoming OnePlus 16 will also feature the Extreme Gen 6.

These new Snapdragon platforms set the stage for faster, more efficient flagship smartphones. Expect the first devices powered by the Gen 6 series to arrive soon, starting with Xiaomi, Motorola, and OnePlus.
