Google is testing a cheaper YouTube Premium plan

Google is currently testing a cheaper YouTube Premium plan, about half off its European price at EUR 6.99. Calling it Premium Lite, the subscription service offers ad-free videos.

Premium Lite is currently being tested in select countries in Europe, including Belgium, Finland, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, and Sweden. It is priced at EUR 6.99 /month (roughly Php 415), but the catch is that it only offers ad-free videos, meaning you’re not getting the amenities YouTube Premium subscribers enjoy, such as background playback, offline downloads, and access to YouTube Music.

It is unclear if Premium Lite will make it to other markets, and if it will have a variant for Asian countries. In the Philippines, the premium subscription is already very affordable at Php 159 /month (around USD 3.20) for individual membership, and just Php 239 /month (USD 5) for the Family Plan.

It comes with all the amenities, including ad-free videos, offline downloads, background playback, access to YouTube Music, and ad-free YouTube Kids.

At this point, we just have to wait and see how this unfolds.
