Smart Communications launches its Mobile Number Portability (MNP) capability starting today, September 30, 2021.
MNP, which is covered by RA 11202, enables Filipinos to retain their mobile number when they change service providers. Under MNP, subscribers can also switch from their prepaid account to a postpaid plan and vice-versa without changing their mobile number.
Switching to Smart with MNP
To switch to the Smart network, a mobile user must first secure a Unique Subscriber Code from his or her originating provider to serve as clearance, and bring it to the nearest Smart Store along with a valid ID and any proof of mobile ownership.
For prepaid SIM cards, that could be any of the following:
- SIM Bed
- SIM card’s Official Receipt with MIN
- PUK Slip
Or you can also login to your to the My Smart Web, MyPLDT Smart App, or the GigaLife App.
From there, Smart shall begin processing the MNP application without any charges.

Take note that there will be a maximum of four hours of service interruption (meaning no voice, SMS, and data) to complete the activation of your new subscription. Also, all current subscriptions including prepaid load balance, rolled-over data MB, value added services (VAS), and other add-ons, are going to expire.

Smart 5G: Philippines’ Fastest 5G Network
Ookla has awarded Smart as the country’s most reliable 5G mobile operator. The telco received the highest scores in 5G Consistency and 5G Availability based on Speedtest Intelligence data in Q2 2021.
Smart topped 5G Consistency with a score of 89.78 percent versus Globe’s 78.15 percent. Smart also led when it comes to 5G Availability with a score of 14.67 percent versus Globe’s 11.86 percent.
Since it launched the country’s first commercial 5G service in July last year, Smart has now fired up over 4,000 5G sites in more than 3,000 locations across the nation, making it the Philippines’ first, fastest, and widest 5G network.
