Smart, PLDT hold workshop on cyber safety for blind students

PLDT and Smart teamed up with ATRIEV to run a three-day cyber safety workshop at the Philippine National School for the Blind. Held in March during International Women’s Month, the sessions aimed to help visually impaired women and girls stay safe online.

The workshop gathered 25 participants, including 17 students and 8 teachers. They learned how to spot phishing attempts, avoid scams, and deal with online harassment. The sessions also covered privacy settings, app permissions, and everyday “cyber hygiene” practices.

This effort is part of PLDT and Smart’s IDEATe program, which promotes inclusion, diversity, equity, and advocacy through technology. Digital inclusion means giving vulnerable groups the tools and knowledge to navigate the internet safely.

PLDT’s Cyber Security Operations Group reported blocking more than 14 billion malicious domain access attempts and stopping 387 million cyberattacks in February alone. These numbers show the scale of online threats and why awareness programs are needed.
