Xiaomi reportedly to remove ads on MIUI 14

Xiaomi is notorious for displaying ads on its smartphones. You can see it in either Xiaomi’s own apps or inside the system itself, in varying degrees depending on what country you’re on. And while it does have a role in reducing the price of the phone, it’s still pretty annoying.

However, that may all change soon. According to a report from MyDrivers, the upcoming MIUI 14 update will do away with ads. Moreover, it will also get rid of bloatware and pre-installed apps.

If you ask me, Xiaomi is removing the ads because it’s no longer necessary. In the past, displaying ads was one way for Xiaomi to make money because they make little profit from selling their phones at a low price point. But in recent times, Xiaomi phones haven’t been “low priced” for some time now. If you notice, most of their phones have caught up to the prices of devices from other manufacturers. Meanwhile, the budget segment has been relegated to the Redmi brand.

Whatever the reason, removing ads is always a good thing, as it improves the user experience of MIUI.

We’ll find out soon enough if this is true, though. The MIUI 14 will be unveiled together with the Xiaomi Mi 13 and Mi 13 Pro sometime in November, as these will be the first devices to come with the new operating system.

In the meantime, most Xiaomi, Redmi, and POCO phones will continue to display ads. Should you want to disable some of them, you can follow the instructions from our post here.
