MMDA says NCR shopping malls may resume their normal mall hours

Shopping malls in Metro Manila can now resume their normal operating hours early as 9 a.m. starting December 23, said the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA).

If you recall, last November, malls in the NCR were asked to adjust their operating hours from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. to help alleviate heavy traffic during the holiday season.

“Due to pre-emptive measures, the anticipated traffic problems during the Christmas season did not come to pass, and an easing in the flow of traffic in Metro Manila’s thoroughfares has been observed despite the increase in Christmas-related activities,” said Atty. Romando Artes, MMDA Acting Chairman, in a memorandum circular released to shopping mall operators.

“Thus, foregoing considered, shopping malls in Metro Manila may now begin operation as early as 9 a.m. starting December 23, 2022,” adds Artes.

The purpose of resuming normal operating hours for NCR malls was to give the public more time to do their last-minute Christmas shopping, the document said.
