Bing AI is a generative AI that runs on ChatGPT, a version of GPT-4 optimized for search. This allows it to handle more complex tasks and generate more accurate responses than its predecessor GPT-3.5.
We decided to challenge it with a simple but popular question: What are the best phones of the first quarter of 2023? Some of the answers it gave us were expected, but some were quite surprising. Here’s what we discovered.
What are the best phones in the first quarter of 2023
On Bing AI, we cut to the chase and asked it straight away: What are the best smartphones in the first quarter of 2023? It gave us a list of five smartphones. Here they are in no particular order.
PHONE | PROCESSOR | RAM/STORAGE | CAMERAS | PRICE |
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | 12GB+256GB 12GB+512GB 12GB+1TB | 200MP + 12MP + 10MP + 10MP rear, 12MP front | ₱81,990 – ₱89,990 |
Google Pixel 7 Pro | Google Tensor G2 | 12GB+128GB 12GB+256GB 12GB+512GB | 50MP + 48MP + 12MP rear, 10.8MP front | $899 – $1,099 |
iPhone 14 Pro | Apple A16 Bionic | 6GB+128GB 6GB+256GB 6GB+512GB 6GB+1TB | 12MP + 12MP + 12MP rear, 12MP front | $999 |
HONOR X9a 5G | Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 | 8GB+256GB | 64MP + 5MP + 2MP rear, 16MP front | ₱16,990 |
Samsung Galaxy A54 5G | Samsung Exynos 1380 | 8GB+126GB 8GB+256GB | 50MP + 12MP + 5MP rear, 32MP front | ₱24,990 – ₱26,990 |
For this query, Bing AI based its searches on local and international sources, hence the mixed results that included the Google Pixel 7 Pro.
The Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra is no surprise. It is regarded by many as the top Android phone so far. The iPhone 14 Pro is understandable there as well, considering it is one of Apple’s most popular phones right now.
Meanwhile, the HONOR X9a 5G went viral in the Philippines because of its effective marketing campaign that showcased the phone’s durability.
What are the best Android phones in the first quarter of 2023?
For the next query, we changed it to look for the best Android phones in the first quarter of 2023. It replaced the iPhone 14 Pro and, curiously, the HONOR X9a 5G with the vivo V28 5G and the realme 10 Pro+ 5G.
Again, Bing AI based its searches on both local and international sources so we got a mix of what’s popular in the international and local markets.
PHONE | PROCESSOR | RAM/STORAGE | CAMERAS | PRICE |
Samsung Galaxy S23 Ultra | Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 | 12GB+256GB 12GB+512GB 12GB+1TB | 200MP + 12MP + 10MP + 10MP rear, 12MP front | ₱81,990 – ₱89,990 |
Google Pixel 7 Pro | Google Tensor G2 | 12GB+128GB 12GB+256GB 12GB+512GB | 50MP + 48MP + 12MP rear, 10.8MP front | $899 – $1,099 |
Samsung Galaxy A54 5G | Samsung Exynos 1380 | 8GB+126GB 8GB+256GB | 50MP + 12MP + 5MP rear, 32MP front | ₱24,990 – ₱26,990 |
vivo V27 5G | MediaTek Dimensity 7200 | 12GB+256GB 8GB extended RAM | 50MP + 12MP + 5MP rear, 32MP front | ₱24,999 |

The vivo V27 5G and realme 10 Pro+ 5G are personal favorites. These mid-rangers provide really good value for the price with great displays, powerful cameras, and efficient performances.
What are the best Android phones in the Philippines in the first quarter of 2023?
Finally, we tried to get answers that are more for the local market with the question: What are the best Android phones in the Philippines in the first quarter of 2023? Here’s what Bing AI gave us.
PHONE | PROCESSOR | RAM/STORAGE | CAMERAS | PRICE |
Samsung Galaxy A54 5G | Samsung Exynos 1380 | 8GB+126GB 8GB+256GB | 50MP + 12MP + 5MP rear, 32MP front | ₱24,990 – ₱26,990 |
vivo V27 5G | MediaTek Dimensity 7200 | 12GB+256GB 8GB extended RAM | 50MP + 8MP + 2MP rear, 50MP front | ₱24,999 |
realme 10 Pro+ 5G | MediaTek Dimensity 920 | 8GB+128GB 12GB+256GB | 108MP + 8MP +2MP rear, 16MP front | ₱19,999 – ₱24,999 |
Samsung Galaxy A14 5G | Samsung Exynos 1330 | 6GB+128GB | 50MP + 2MP + 2MP rear, 13MP front | ₱12,990 |
POCO X5 5G | Qualcomm Snapdragon 695 | 6GB+128GB 8GB+256GB | 48MP + 8MP + 2MP rear, 13MP front | ₱16,999 – ₱18,999 |
For this query, Bing AI based its searches only on local sources, which had their own lists of “Best of Smartphones” that influenced the results. The absence of flagships is notable, but not surprising.
The A-Series phones are the most popular for Samsung. In 2022, the A-Series accounted for nearly 60 percent of all Samsung phone sales globally.
Meanwhile, the POCO phones have a good following because of their price-to-specs ratio, so it’s no surprise that its latest mid-range, the POCO X5 5G, is on the list.
Final Remarks
We asked Bing AI to rank the best phones of the first quarter of 2023 based on web searches and reviews. The results confirmed some of our assumptions but also challenged some of them.
As expected, Samsung and Apple dominated the global rankings, reflecting their popularity and reputation. However, in the Philippine market, we saw a different picture. Mid-range phones from brands like vivo, realme, and POCO were the most sought-after devices, offering a balance between performance and affordability. You can read more about why mid-range phones are a better choice than flagships in our article here.
What surprised us was how much-written content influenced Bing AI’s answers. Of course, Bing AI relies on web sources to answer queries. But this also means that marketers can potentially sway Bing AI’s opinions by creating enough local buzz around a phone as “the best”.
This raises some questions about the reliability and objectivity of AI-generated rankings. How can we trust Bing AI to give us unbiased and accurate information? How can we avoid being manipulated by marketing strategies? These are some of the issues we need to consider as we use AI more and more in our daily lives.
