Smart teams up with Google Cloud to enhance digital services for Filipinos

Smart Communications announced a collaboration with Google Cloud to improve the accessibility of essential digital services for Filipinos, with Searce providing technical implementation support.

Smart will be one of the first communication services providers (CSPs) in the Asia Pacific region to use Telecom Subscriber Insights, a Google Cloud solution that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze customer data and provide personalized recommendations for data services.

The collaboration aims to address the growing demand for mobile connectivity in the Philippines, where the digital economy is expected to grow 20% year-on-year until 2025. Smart will use Telecom Subscriber Insights to understand how Filipinos use digital services and what challenges they face, such as running low on data or having poor coverage in rural areas.

Smart will also leverage Google Cloud’s generative AI (gen AI) capabilities, which can create natural-sounding and relevant responses based on customer data. Smart plans to integrate gen AI with Telecom Subscriber Insights to enable its subscribers to interact with virtual agents that can offer more tailored and accessible insights into, and ways to optimize, their data consumption.

Alex O. Caeg, Senior Vice President and Head of Consumer Business – Individual, Smart Communications, Inc., said that the collaboration with Google Cloud will help Smart better serve Filipino mobile users and provide them with the best mobile experience powered by its superior network.

Gabriele Di Piazza, Senior Director, Global Product Management, Telecommunications, Google Cloud, said that Telecom Subscriber Insights will allow Smart to extract customer insights in real-time and inform digital sales opportunities based on customer readiness, price sensitivity, and lifetime value.

Malis Selamat, Country Manager, Philippines and Vietnam, Google Cloud, said that Smart’s use of Telecom Subscriber Insights shows the potential for CSPs in Asia to support national digital transformation efforts with AI in a secure and privacy-controlled environment while empowering consumers to make more informed decisions about their data usage in a fast-changing digital world.
