Xiaomi 14 confirmed to launch with Snapdragon 8 Gen 3

The Xiaomi 14 will be the first smartphone to feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm’s newest and most advanced chipset, which promises to revolutionize mobile computing with generative artificial intelligence.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 is built on TSMC’s 4nm process and boasts a 3.3GHz Cortex-X4 super core, along with five Cortex-A720 performance cores and two Cortex-A520 efficiency cores. According to Qualcomm, the chip offers up to 30% better CPU performance and 25% faster GPU performance than previous generations.

Xiaomi president William Lu announced the news at the Snapdragon Summit, highlighting the strong partnership between Xiaomi and Qualcomm. “This is one of the first times ever that a new platform and a new device launch together,” he said.

According to reports, the Xiaomi 14 series will have two models: Xiaomi 14 and Xiaomi 14 Pro. Both devices are expected to have a 6.44-inch OLED display with 1.5K resolution, 120Hz refresh rate, up to 2,800 nits of brightness, and Dolby Vision and HDR10+ support.

It is expected to be a camera powerhouse, as well, featuring LEICA Summilux lenses and a large VC cooling system for thermal management. The phones will run on HyperOS, Xiaomi’s new operating system that is based on Android 12 and offers a minimalist and fluid user interface.

The Xiaomi 14 series will launch in China on October 26, followed by other markets soon after. The pricing and availability details for the Philippines will be revealed then.
