The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) warns against the unauthorized posting of commercial advertisements on lampposts within its jurisdiction.
In a recent Facebook post, the agency emphasized that only informative announcements from government agencies, such as the MMDA itself, the Metro Manila Film Festival, and other government offices, are allowed to be displayed on lampposts under its management.
According to MMDA Regulation No. 24-001 Series of 2024, the renting out of lampposts for any type of advertisement or private announcement is strictly prohibited. All materials intended for posting on lampposts must undergo thorough review and approval by the MMDA. Unauthorized materials will be immediately removed.
Violators of this regulation face a fine of Php 5,000 per lamppost and may also be subject to legal action.
MMDA’s warning comes after a recent advertising stunt sparked controversy in Makati City. On July 25, ad agency Gigil replaced street signs along Sen. Gil Puyat Avenue with “Gil Tulog” for a Wellspring melatonin supplement campaign.
The brazen move drew widespread online attention and prompted Makati Mayor Abby Binay to order the immediate removal of the unauthorized signage. Gigil has since apologized for the incident.
