Epic Games Store finally lands on Android and iOS, but with a hitch

After a long legal battle, the Epic Games Store has finally arrived on mobile devices. The store is currently downloadable on iPhones in the European Union, thanks to the Digital Markets Act (DMA), and on Android devices worldwide.

This launch is significant for both Epic Games and the mobile gaming landscape. Notably, it coincides with the debut of Fall Guys for mobile. Fortnite and Rocket League Sideswipe, two other popular Epic Games offerings, are also available through the store.

However, accessing the new store on mobile isn’t as seamless as users might expect. The installation process, particularly for iOS devices, is considerably longer than traditional app stores. Epic blames Apple and Google for intentionally creating a “poor-quality install experience” filled with “multiple steps, confusing device settings, and scare screens.”

Epic is actively working with regulators worldwide to dismantle what they perceive as “anticompetitive terms” imposed by Apple and Google on developers and consumers alike.

They are also exploring partnerships with independent app stores like AltStore PAL, further diversifying their distribution channels.
