Acer unveiled an interesting new concept at IFA 2024 in Berlin, Germany. Project DualPlay is its latest gaming laptop with a built-in accessory: detachable controllers.

Project DualPlay is a concept device that features a large touchpad that detaches into a wireless controller. It is built right into the chassis and secured by an electromagnetic lock. A button releases the accessory, which also pops out two high-fidelity 5W speakers from the laptop’s sides.

The detachable controller can be separated into two separate joysticks (similar to Nintendo Switch’s Joy-Cons), allowing for some two-player action.

Aside from the detachable controllers, the device boasts customizable 360-degree dynamic RGB lighting on the keyboard, screen bezels, wide trackpad, and infinity mirror lighting bar on the back. It even extends to the joysticks on the detachable controllers.

For now, Project DualPlay is still a concept laptop, meaning it may or may not become an actual product. However, it’s refreshing to see brands like Acer pushing boundaries in a market that could benefit from more innovation.
