Potential US import ban could hit iPhones, Galaxy, and Pixel devices after the US International Trade Commission opened an investigation into Apple, Samsung, and Google. The case comes from BoomCloud 360, a small California audio company, claiming infringement of spatial audio patents.
BoomCloud 360 filed under Section 337, asking for a Limited Exclusion Order and cease-and-desist orders. If granted, these could block imports and sales of affected devices in the US. Products at risk include smartphones, earbuds, and TVs with spatial audio features. That means popular models like the AirPods 5, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and Pixel phones could be involved in the dispute.
The company says three of its patents were violated. It specializes in cloud sound optimization software and holds intellectual property on spatial audio processing. The USITC investigation does not mean that infringement has been proven, but it shows the case is serious enough to review.
Apple, Samsung, and Google have already filed lawsuits against BoomCloud 360 in federal courts. These cases challenge the claims and aim to protect their devices from restrictions. The legal fight could take months, with hearings and appeals likely before any final decision.
