Samsung to drop DeX app for Windows PCs on OneUI 7

Samsung will discontinue its DeX app for Windows PCs with the upcoming OneUI 7.0 update.

For those who aren’t familiar with it, DeX is a popular tool for many Samsung Galaxy phone users. The app mirrors their phone’s screen onto a window on a PC. It offers a seamless way to transfer files between devices and extend their phone’s capabilities to a larger screen.

The news was quietly revealed on Samsung’s UK website, where a small asterisk now indicates that DeX for PC on Windows OS will no longer be supported from OneUI 7 onwards.

“The DeX for PC on Windows OS will end support from One UI 7 version. We encourage customers to connect mobile phones and PC through the Link to Windows feature,” Samsung stated.

While this might be disappointing for some users, it’s worth noting that Windows already has its own phone connectivity feature, Link to Windows, which has been around for a while. Take note that only the DeX application for Windows will be phased out, not the DeX system itself.

The OneUI 7 update is expected to arrive on supported devices in early 2025. As we approach the end of 2024, we can expect to see the beta version of OneUI 7 begin its rollout in December. This will give users a chance to test out the new features and changes before the official release.
