Apple has dropped a new “Shot on iPhone” short film, this time showcasing the capabilities of the iPhone 16 Pro. The video, a Chinese New Year musical, is directed by Michael Gracey, an Australian filmmaker renowned for his work on “The Greatest Showman” and “Rocketman.”

The nearly 12-minute film tells the story of Wei, who, while traveling home for Chinese New Year, finds his parents’ ’90s mixtape. He’s transported to a ’90s dream world where he meets a complete stranger who “rekindles his faith in love.”
Apart from the short film, Apple has also released a behind-the-scenes look at the filmmaking process, giving us a glimpse of how Gracey and his team used the iPhone 16 Pro. You can see how they captured stunning visuals with a mix of handheld shots, professional lighting, and camera rigs.

The filmmakers also credit the iPhone’s Camera Control switch for how it made zooming easier, giving them more creative control over their shots.
The short film is impressive, particularly the low-light shots. This CNY musical effectively showcases the iPhone 16 Pro as a versatile creative tool.
